A full mouth series of dental x-rays is recommended for new patients. Bite-wing x-rays (x-rays of top and bottom teeth biting together) are taken at recall (check-up) visits and are recommended once or twice a year to detect new dental problems. Dental x-rays provide valuable information which is not visible during a regular exam. X-rays may reveal cysts, abscesses, bone loss, decay, tumors (both cancerous and non-cancerous) and problems inside the teeth or below the gum line.
A periodontal exam should always be part of your regular dental check-up. A periodontal probe (small dental instrument) is gently used to measure the space between the tooth and the gums. If your gums are healthy, the space will be three millimeters or less and the gums not prone to bleeding. The periodontal probe helps indicate if pockets are deeper than three millimeters. Pockets deeper than three millimeters can indicate the existence of periodontal disease.

We can use nitrous oxide and oxygen inhalation as a safe, effective, and reversible way to decrease any apprehension during your dental visit. Sometimes a mild oral anti-anxiety medication is necessary to ease nerves.As long as you have someone to drive you home from our office, we can provide a prescription for you.

Sealants are often used as a great way to protect your teeth against decay on the biting surface of the teeth.Sealants are primarily used for our younger patients. For best results, sealants should be applied to the teeth as soon as the permanent back teeth emerge.
Periodontal care is very important for the overall health of your mouth. We offer conservative but thorough periodontal management. We will make every effort to improve the health of your gums. If we cannot meet your periodontal needs, we may need to refer you to a specialist.
